Worst Summer for music in Vancouver ever?
"There will be no Virgin Festival in Vancouver this year, according to organizers who say it was too hard to attract top acts.
"It wasn't from a lack of trying," Andrew Bridge, director of Virgin Festivals, told the Globe and Mail newspaper.
Bridge blamed the plethora of music festivals that have blossomed over the years for the difficulties in booking big-name bands.
The Vancouver V-Fest, as it's commonly called, had been hoping to have Radiohead, Jack Johnson and Coldplay on its roster, he said.
Vancouver's first V-Fest was held last year on a stormy Victoria Day weekend with acts such as My Chemical Romance and The Killers. Organizers were planning for a late spring or early summer event this year to avoid the rain.
Bridge said this won't end the V-Fest's run in Vancouver, as he hopes to bring it back next year.
Virgin Festivals will still be held in Calgary and Toronto this summer.
Calgary's event, on June 21 and 22, will feature Stone Temple Pilots and The Tragically Hip, while Oasis and the Foo Fighters will headline Toronto's V-Fest, on Sept. 6 and 7.
The rock festival, which originated in Britain and features high-profile rock acts, is backed by Virgin Mobile and its president, British tycoon Richard Branson."
wow that fucking blows, not one - but TWO regular festivals i expected to attend are gone this year. This only leaves the pemberton festival - and i'm not about to spend 300 dollars to see, coldplay, Wolfmother and the couple other bands in an odd line up featuring no common similarity between the bands playing. the 300 dollars doesnt even count the huge camping fee. Calgary even gets a festival, then you have Toronto, who is always given the best for Canada, this really pisses me off honestly. the only thing that could make this better is a show from alexisonfire - and thats not gonna happen.
could this possibly be the worst summer vancouver has ever had for music
