How Materialistic we really are,

I was sitting on a bench in one of my favorite parks, just watching the people go by. Listening to music. A man beside me was chatting with a friend of his about a random topic irrelevant to this post. Suddenly, in the middle of ‘Here comes the sun’ I began to hear the most beautiful song coming from the trees beside me. I looked up to see a songbird singing enthusiastically. Apparently, the man beside me had also heard and asked his friend, ‘Do you hear that beautiful sound’. The friend, with a suprised look on his face said no. I assumed it was because of all the noise, people talking, playing soccer, the river flowing. But then a funny thing happened, another man, quite far around, dropped some change. The other man who had previously not heard the bird, along with many others, jerked his neck towards the clink of the change. It then occured to me, that people have tuned their ears to such extent, to what provides them only a certain ammount of pleasure, and in the process of doing so, have become completely death to what is truly beatiful, what truly matters.

So - Men Aren’t Only For Dying..

Bus Stop Advertising

So I’m waiting for the bus after work and soon realise an odd advertisement about a boy with a drawn-on orange tie, saying “I’ll be there”. I look closely and soon realise this is about a Prostate Cancer fundraising walk/run. This was a nice change, it seems everywhere you go these days shit is dedicated to the female equivelant; breast cancer. The vast majority of breast cancer is curable and almost never results in death this day-in-age. Yet we see fundraising for it everywhere from our food packaging to on a hockey player’s stick. I realise its for a good cause, yet despite all the effort, it seems little to none has been done for prostate cancer - a cancer which is more lethal than that of breast cancer. It was nice to see not everyone forgot about the males of the society.

Boonstock

So the festival including Alexisonfire just took a step backwards as The people i know actually live in Calgary. oh well - hope that doesnt stop me. Plan B in the Warped Tour isn’t a bad thing after all.

Overpriced Paraphernalia

Overpriced Paraphernalia

I went downtown today and I’ve realised 3 things.

  1. Trendy clothing stores down by Granville and Robson spend far too much money on DJ’s who don’t do more than select a playlist
  2. I wish i had a few grand to go buy a couple $40 T-Shirts
  3. People spend far too much on over priced shit

The Incident of The Denny’s In The Nightime

Denny’s was superb, although i only have $40 or something left or was it $60?  working once a week doesnt help. I thought my friend was gonna get run over when she tripped over the island in the middle of the road face first, lucky for her it was on a scrape on the arm. and walking through the McDonalds drive through is obviously the best way to nearly get hit by pricks hitting it into reverse.

So, It’s Better Than I Thought

So an Update on Alexisonfire playing Boonstock. its in Gibbons which is a little ways from Edmonton. I falsely thought Red Deer (where friends live) was just a stones throw from Calgary. Lucky for  me its mid way between Calgary and Edmonton making Boonstock seem like a reality. We’ll see what happens, Alexisonfire would be ace.

How This Month Ate Music…

City And Colour

So i saw Dallas Green play the Orpheum on the 21st met by a shitty crowd and an uninspired performance by Dallas. He noticed the crowd and often had to tell them to start clapping singing, or what-have-you. He didn’t say much apart from a story or two, and the venue did nothing to help, last years performance outside at Malkin Bowl was stunning and did far more for the music than this did.  I was surprised to hear Sometimes (I wish) so early on the set as that is usually is flag bearing song which he often uses for an encore. It didn’t say much for Vancouver when i felt out of place singing among the other fans. All in all though it was good to see him play his new music.

The Setlist was as follows:

Forgive Me
The Death Of Me
Sam Malone
Waiting…
Sometimes
Save Your Scissors*
Sleeping Sickness
Constant Knot
The Girl
Day Old Hate*
Hello, I’m In Delaware*
What Makes A Man*
As Much As I Ever Could
—————————–
Against The Grain*
Comin’ Home

* = Dallas performs solo.

Underøath

So they released a live album on the 27th called Survive Kaleidoscope, and i realise this isn’t everyone’s type of music but if it is it’s defiently worth buying, one of the best live bands around, I’ve had the leaked version for a while and Writing on the Walls is the biggest stand out track while the intro to A Boy Brushed Red Living In Black And White is impressive and definetly not something off the original.

Alexisonfire

So I find out they’re to be playing a festival in Calgary July 5th. Now I’m supposed to be heading out their but about a month after that. Alexisonfire being my favourite band - I’m wondering if i should skip out on Rise Against and a handful of other bands to go check out Alexisonfire. anyone have anything to say about that?
