If you're into hardcore:
Dead Hearts is a brilliant band from Buffalo.
MySpace.com - Dead Hearts - BUFFALO - Hardcore / Punk / Hardcore - www.myspace.com/deadhearts

I've been into a lot of really heavy stuff lately too. For that genre I would recomend:

The Black Dahlia Murder
MySpace.com - The Black Dahlia Murder IS ON TOUR NOW!!! - Detroit, Michigan - Death Metal / Metal / Thrash - www.myspace.com/blackdahliamurder

Bring Me The Horizon
MySpace.com - BRING ME THE HORIZON (is writing a new cd) - steel city!, UK - Metal / Hardcore / Thrash - www.myspace.com/bmth
