I'm looking for good bands you never hear on the radio.
Any suggestions?

Well first of all what genre(s) are you looking for? I could probably recommend some (real) screamo shit but you might hate it.

I'll start it off with Fucked Up - in my opinion they are one of the best modern hardcore bands.

The Avett Brothers are sweet if you want some folky/punky/rocky stuff..I don't even know how else to describe them, they also have a sort of blue grass/country feel to them.

Keeping with blending genres The Gaslight Anthem from New Jersey do a phenomenal job blending punk with pretty much every other guitar based genre into an amazing new sound. They are also some of the best song writers imo and are definately a band to look out for in the next couple years.

I find a lot of good bands just through their associations with other bands. For instance their top myspace friends, or the thank you section of a cd. If you want bands from a specific genre or similar to other bands you can also ask around music message boards for recommendations..or just going to shows helps too :P

And books for the older stuff

Pretty popular, but amazing.. Minus the Bear. Everything they do is amazing. Their guitarist, Dave Knudson, was in Botch if you listened to them before they broke up.

Also, completely underappreciated - Murder By Death. They just dropped their 4th full length called Red of Tooth and Claw. Check it out, it's incredible.
