I know that feeling. When I interviewed him I came to the venue from speaking at a memorial service. I had mentioned that to him over the course of conversation. When he was on stage for the encore he said "I tend to write songs for myself. I guess that makes me selfish. But this song I wrote for other people, like my friends who interviewed me earlier and went to a funeral. (and then pointed at us.) I would like to dedicate this to them," and played Against the Grain. My jaw hit my chest and to be honest I got a little teared up. That really meant a lot to me, and you don't get that at other places.

Same thing happened with Jully Black, which I went to three days after Janice (my Mom's best friend, and practically a second mother) died. She did a song called "Catch me when I fall" and I cried through it, and when I met her thanked her. I was reading her tour diary the other day.

"Oh I want to dedicate last nights performance of 'Catch me when I fall" to a fan named JASON who lost his friend JANICE to Cancer just this past Sunday. I met him after the show last night and was just moved when he told me that he was so happy I performed that song and how much it is helping him in his time of mourning.

People like JASON make it al worth it. No matter how long it may have taken me to get here, the truth is I'm right on time. Many are called but few are chosen and I'm VERY proud to be apart of a chosen generation of story tellers and musicians. "

Needless to say, that got me going all over again.

Aw. It's nice that he did that.
