I would imagine we can find lots to speak about on this topic. I'd like to explore the typical commentary on democracy in our society, not necessarily United States, but anywhere, particularly your own countries, perhaps Canada, Great Britain, local or provincial. Speak your views here, what's happening to society as we see it being run by those we've seemingly chosen to look out for our best interests?

In England the general consensus from the point of view of your average family, and pretty much everyone I know, is that the country is being given away and is in a bad shape. Given away in the fact that we allow asylum seekers to come to our country and claim benfits while refusing to work; nothing against asylum seekers except that most are from middle east/arabic nations and they are supposed to claim asylum in the first politically free country they come to. Instead, they bypass Spain, France, Germany and all of the other countries in between to come to England. I seem to be explaining this and putting myself in a really bad light. This is a really big debate over here and it may sound racist but it's not meant to be that way, I would say the same if it was any person coming into this country and sponging off the hard working tax payers. Another thing is the dole scum building up in todays society. I think that people who genuinely cannot work for a legitimate reason (e.g. disability, illness etc) are free to use the dole system, but anyone who is able to work should, in my eyes, work. This may sound confusing to people from other countries as I'm not particularly adept at explaining our political status, but take it from me there is a lot of civil unrest in England. The government is a shambles, giving to the rich, lazy and famous and taking from the poor, hard working and the true working class heroes; if something big doesn't happen soon I can see the beginnings of a revolution starting to take shape... that may be me thinking a little too wishfully though.

P.S. I know i'm no Shakespeare so if further clarification of my views or anything is needed gimme a shout, always happy to talk.

Personally my beef with the current government is not so much the immigrant situation. I think that the UK should do its bit just like any other country. The Netherlands are the smalles nation and they have more immigrants than anyone else. My problem is the fact that the UK are still fully immersed in a useless war.

I'm not understanding how and why people talk about others as if they are really aliens. I think that any and everyone should be able to live where they choose and where they please.

I hope I didn't come off as racist or anything, all I meant was that some people who emigrate to this country refuse to work and just claim benefits etc which the working tax payers have to pay for. I've got nothing at all against imigrants, in fact I welcome it, creates a more multi-cultural society it's just when their refusal to work is costing other people money. In fact it's not just immigrants there are many English people who claim to be born and bred here who are doing exactly what I said, to me that shouldn't be the English way.

I agree with that. Allow me to clarify, I see nothing wrong with people living where they want, provided they are willing to contribute to the society in which they choose to live.

Agreed, lol. That took some effort to put across clearly, I hate lapsing into illiteracy

Thanks, I think! No seriously, I have heard so much on the subject of illegal immigration that it has become a sore subject. They're here, they're illegal, and they know it, and they will keep coming, until the countries of origin give them a reason to stay home.

Here in the United States we have freedom of speech and many people freely knock our officials. I am all for freedom of speech, I just think it's sad that the people we vote for to be in office end up to be the ones we criticize the most.

But aren't those who do the most criticizing the ones who voted for "the other guy"? I have a lot of gripes with the political systems of today...especially democracy. I personally feel it has completely failed in what it was designed to do; politicians have run rampant with their corruption and personal adgendas.
