Default Sharp tones; stylistic lyrics

City and Colour, first we might comment on the name itself, and what it actually represents, and what it will signify as this fledgling band begins to take off. How symbiotic can be a name in its simplistic reality. Yet, the name of the band will go further as early listeners will imagine a cityscape and its cultural hues.

Green's opening lyrics on the band's webpage seems to suggest a soft tone that brings the notion of James Taylor, Coldplay, and his native kin, Bruce Cockburn to mind - lyrics with meaning and sentiment. I love the album cover with its simplistic gesture towards nature and symbolism, an artistic rendering of the Maple Leaf.

Looking forward to listening to this band evolve.

Okay, that's funny. I was under the impression that the name "City and Colour" wasn't symbolic at all, but rather literal, in reference to Dallas Green's name.
Dallas -- city
Green -- colour
I thought that was a great way to pick a name, and a great name came from it. But then, maybe I'm missing the deep, philosophical meaning... lol.

That's what I heard as well...I believe he said that in an interview, and justified it by saying that he was uncomfortable with releasing an album under his own name.

I can't cite a source, but I take it to be the truth.

Um... let's see... I think I got that from the wipikedia page on City and Colour... at least I think that's where I saw it. In any case, still a great way to pick a name.

Ya, that is the way he's explained in every interview where they ask the story behind the name. The one that comes to mind most was a Much Music show.

I love the depth and symbolism you've thought of though. Really anyone could interpret it however they want, and yours just adds to the beauty of the name

To be honest I had not heard of City and Colour until I found this web site. Out of curiosity I wanted to see what City and Colour was. In listeneing to the music, I am falling in love. The songs, singing of longing and love and strength make me very melancholy. I like the band and look forward to more.
